The ‘Momentum’ Cycle of Concerts and Conferences is organised by DeCA and by the Aveiro branch of INET-md.
The name ‘Momentum’ was inspired by the Momentum Ensemble (formed by DeCA students in 2003). From 2004 until 2006, the Momentum Ensemble organised this cycle of concerts and conferences. From 2007, some of these cycles began to be organized by the Associação Portuguesa de Flautas and the Performa Ensemble, with financial support from DGArtes.
The principal aim of this cycle is to promote and appreciate contemporary Portuguese music, through concerts, masterclasses, conferences and the commissioning and premiering of new works. To date, Momentum has commissioned over thirty new works, in addition to recording various CDs.
Since 2015, Momentum has focused on the theme “Composers and Performers in the First Person’, aiming to give a voice to composers and performers, a more informal manner of exploring their musical journeys. The related concerts, which often feature commentaries, contribute to the audience’s understanding and appreciation of contemporary music. Sara Carvalho is currently the artistic director of Momentum, and responsible for organising this cycle.
